field-0

Field-0, co-founded by Jingru (Cyan) Cheng and Chen Zhan, is a relation-oriented practice working across architecture, anthropology, art and film.

Through a nomadic mode of fieldwork, they investigate how planetary systems become lived realities. Following drifting bodies—whether sand, water or migrant workers—across rivers, reservoirs, energy infrastructures, borderlands and emerging computational territories, journeying becomes a method in itself. Their own travelling bodies become instruments of inquiry, tracing relations that only emerge through movement between distant places and forms of life. Through immersive installations, moving image and spatial interventions, they create situated encounters in which abstract systems are brought into collective experience.

Field-0’s recent solo shows include How Much Wattage Is One Handbreadth of Water (Storefront for Art and Architecture, New York, 2025), Ripple Ripple Rippling (Architectural Association, London, 2024) and Hydroelectric Spectre (Bangkok Kunsthalle, 2026), as well as participation in the Singapore Biennale: Pure Intention (2025-26) and Monsoon School (deCentral Chiang Mai, 2026). Their film work received the Architecture Short Film Award at the Milano Design Film Festival (2024) and the Best Short Film at the Venice Architecture Film Festival (2023).

Cyan was awarded the Harvard GSD’s 2023 Wheelwright Prize for Tracing Sand, and received two commendations from the RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) President’s Awards for Research in 2020 and 2018. Her work has been exhibited as part of Critical Zones at ZKM Karlsruhe, Germany (2020–22), Seoul Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism (2019) and Venice Architecture Biennale (2018), among others. Cyan holds a PhD by Design from the Architectural Association and currently teaches part-time at the Royal College of Art in London.
