MONSOON SCHOOL:
SITE AS METHOD
Workshop Gathering + Group Exhibition
deCentral Chiang Mai, Thailand

The programme takes the form of a 10-day gathering in Chiang Mai during the Thai monsoon season, accompanied by a group exhibition that considers how practitioners—including artists, curators, architects, and cultural workers—respond to particular sites as a means of creating, engaging and facilitating artistic production.
For this edition, we presented two long-term projects, Ripple Ripple Rippling and Tracing Sand, through spatial cinema, scroll drawing, photographs, and fieldnotes. Moving between sustained proximity and nomadic research across China and Southeast Asia, both projects explore how artistic practice emerges through lived entanglements with communities, landscapes, infrastructures, and material flows. Together, they explore how long-term, site-responsive practices can reconnect distant sites and communities through relations of care, repair and reciprocity.
